Carlsberg Agrees to Acquire Britvic for Rp 69 Trillion

Carlsberg has reached an agreement to acquire Britvic, a British soft drinks manufacturer, for a sum of £3.3 billion. The deal comprises an offer of 1,315 pence per share, comprising both cash and a special dividend of 25 pence per share. Carlsberg anticipates that this acquisition will enhance shareholder value and facilitate post-merger growth. Carlsberg CEO Jacob Aarup Andersen stated that the transaction will establish the company as a major force in the UK, dismissing concerns raised by analysts regarding integration risks. Carlsberg has a proven track record of success in operating beer and soft drink businesses across a range of international markets. Britvic sells non-alcoholic beverages in a number of countries, including the UK, Ireland, Brazil, France, the Middle East and Asia. It is anticipated that the deal will generate savings of £100 million over the next five years through the utilisation of shared production and distribution networks.

China's Car Sales Slope

Despite government incentives, consumer demand for automobiles in China has remained relatively flat, resulting in a 6.9% decline in auto sales in June compared to the previous year. This marks the third consecutive month of decline in the context of a slowing economic recovery. In June, sales of passenger vehicles reached 1.78 million, representing a steeper decline than that seen in the preceding months of May and April. In 2023, vehicle sales in China were robust, driven by manufacturers' price reductions in response to intense competition. However, there has been a decline in vehicle sales since April of this year. Despite the recent downturn, car sales for the first half of 2024 still demonstrated a 2.9% increase on an annual basis, reaching 9.93 million vehicles. In June, 48.1% of domestic car sales were of vehicles using renewable energy, including pure electric and plug-in hybrids.
