The prices of oil weakened, with Brent falling to US$ 82.12 and WTI dropping to US$ 76.95.

Despite positive economic data from the US and China and a decline in US crude oil stockpiles, oil prices weakened in early trading. Brent crude oil futures for the March 2024 delivery contract fell by 0.39% to $82.12 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil for the same delivery contract dropped by 0.5% to $76.95 per barrel. Although both Brent and WTI benchmarks are on track for a second consecutive week of gains, concerns over potential supply disruptions have affected sentiment. Chinese officials have requested Iran's assistance in preventing attacks on ships in the Red Sea by the Iran-backed Houthi group. Failure to do so may harm business ties with Beijing. The Houthis have also stated their intention to continue targeting ships linked to Israel until aid reaches the Palestinian people in Gaza. This week, oil prices have been driven by a larger-than-expected drop in crude inventories, strong economic data, and concerns over supply disruptions.

US Presidential Candidate Survey: Donald Trump More Popular Than Joe Biden

The upcoming United States presidential election features Joe Biden and Donald Trump as potential candidates. This would be a rematch of the 2020 election, which Biden won. However, recent surveys indicate that Biden's popularity is decreasing, with Trump being favoured by a larger proportion of the public. According to a national poll conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, Trump is leading with 40% compared to Biden's 34%. 67% of respondents expressed a desire for new candidates in presidential elections, but only 18% stated they would not vote if Biden and Trump were the options. Trump still faces competition from fellow Republican candidate Nikki Haley, but the White House sees him as a beatable challenger. Concerns are growing about Biden's age, casting doubt on his suitability as a candidate.
