Economist's 2025 Forecast After Trump Becomes US President
Leading economists have provided their forecasts for the American economy in 2025 with the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. According to David Kass, a professor of finance, real GDP is expected to grow at a healthy rate of 2% in 2025, with unemployment remaining relatively low at around 4.2% to 4.3%. He also indicated that the risk of a recession does not appear to be significant for that year. However, there are concerns about inflation due to Trump's plans to increase tariffs, implement tax cuts, and deport immigrants, which could lead to higher prices. Jonathan Ernest, an economics professor, has warned about potential trade disruptions, stating that the threat of tariffs could result in retaliatory tariffs and costly supply chain rework. This has led to a sense of uncertainty among companies regarding their future costs.
China discovers 1.15 million tonnes of rare earth mineral deposits in Yunnan
China has made another major discovery in its resource exploration, uncovering a significant rare earth deposit in Honghe, Yunnan province. The new deposits have the potential to boost China's domestic industry significantly, with an estimated yield of over 1.15 million metric tonnes of resources. The deposit contains highly sought-after minerals such as praseodymium, neodymium, dysprosium, and terbium, totalling more than 470,000 tonnes. This new deposit is a super-large ion absorption type rare earth element (RRE) deposit, representing a significant breakthrough in China's resource exploration. Ion-adsorbed rare earth ores are naturally concentrated and adsorbed onto the surface of clay minerals, making extraction relatively straightforward through environmentally friendly methods. Once operational, this deposit is expected to become China's most important medium to heavy rare earth mine, further increasing its rare earth resources.
