Samsung Electronics Posts Record Q3 Operating Profit, Up Nearly Ninefold on Strong AI Chip Demand

Samsung Electronics delivered a standout performance, with operating profit surging nearly ninefold to a record high in the third quarter of 2026. The strong results were driven by robust demand for AI chips, even as investors remain concerned about the resilience of AI spending. Samsung, the world’s largest memory chipmaker, reported an operating profit of 107.4 trillion won, or about US$80.04 billion, for the July to September 2026 period. The figure was in line with its own estimate and up sharply from the 12.2 trillion won it earned in the third quarter of 2025. The jump in operating profit was matched by growth in revenue. Samsung booked revenue of 195.25 trillion won in the third quarter of 2026, a 126.88% increase from the same period in 2025 and a 13.85% rise from the previous quarter.

Truth Social Reportedly Sells Faster Access to Trump’s Posts Through Bloomberg and Two Wall Street Trading Firms

Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, has reportedly struck a deal with news and data provider Bloomberg and two Wall Street trading firms to give them faster access to the US president’s posts. The service is priced at up to US$100,000 per month, or roughly Rp1.6 billion assuming an exchange rate of Rp16,000 per US dollar. According to several people with direct knowledge of the matter, the two trading firms subscribing to the service are Susquehanna International Group and Jump Trading. Both are high-frequency trading firms that rely on algorithmic, automated strategies to execute trades. The service gives subscribers a speed advantage in receiving Trump’s posts on Truth Social. Because information shared by the US president can move financial markets, earlier access could give Wall Street traders an edge over retail investors.

Wall Street Starts Separating AI Winners From Cost-Laden Spenders as Microsoft Rises and Alphabet Slumps

Wall Street is beginning to distinguish between technology companies that can turn artificial intelligence (AI) into profit and those still weighed down by the heavy cost of developing it. Shares of Microsoft and Oracle drew a positive response from investors on Wednesday (October 28, 2026), after both companies showed they can fund their AI ambitions without continually relying on external financing. Alphabet, by contrast, came under pressure as large cash outflows and slowing growth in Google’s search business stoked investor worries. Microsoft (MSFT.O) shares jumped more than 3% in after-hours trading, while Alphabet (GOOGL.O) tumbled nearly 10%. The moves reflect a sharper divide in how investors value companies that can make money from AI versus those still struggling to contain development costs. Having earlier rewarded tech firms for aggressively securing computing capacity, including through debt financing, investors now want stronger proof that AI business growth can pay for the next round of investment.
